CouncilThe congregation nominates and elects congregational members to serve as Elders and Deacons. Together with the Senior Pastor and other pastors they form the Council which is entrusted with overseeing the spiritual life and ministries of the church and making policy decisions. 2009-2010 Council MembersWayne VanDerKolk, Chair of Elders and Chair of Council Ed Outslay, Clerk Brian Maat, Assistant Treasurer Troy Sprague, Sec'y of Deacons/Asst.Clerk of Council Bob Dykman, Elder Jack Harkema, Elder Florence Lamberts, Elder Shawn Cox, Deacon Grace Kreulen, Elder Linda Slopsema, Deacon Kristi Thomas, Deacon Joe Nelson, Deacon Elders serve by governing the church in Christ's name. They are responsible for the spiritual well-being of God's people. They maintain true and pure preaching and teaching of the Word, regular celebration of the sacaraments, and faithful counsel and discipline. They must promote fellowship and hospitality among believers, ensure good order in the church, and stimulate witness to all people. They provide leadership for the church and encourage the building up of the body of Christ. Deacons serve by showing mercy to the church and all of it's people. In Christ's name, deacons help victims of injustice and promote the kingdom, desiring to give life to the shape of things to come. Deacons are called to assess needs, promote stewardship and hospitality, collect and disburse resources for benevolence, and develop programs of assistance. They bring encouragement in word and in action and demonstrate the care of the Lord himself. |
